How to Use the Bitcoin Chart
What is the Kimchi Premium?
The Kimchi Premium (“Kimp”) is the percentage difference between crypto prices on Korean exchanges (Upbit, Bithumb) and global exchanges (Coinbase, Binance).
- Positive(+) Kimp = Prices in Korea are higher than global exchanges
- Negative(-) Kimp = Prices in Korea are lower than global exchanges
How is it calculated?
Premium (%) = { Korean Price (KRW) / [ Global Price (USD) × FX Rate ] − 1 } × 100
Why does it occur?
- Supply/Demand imbalances: Local buying surges (new listings or retail demand) can push Korean prices higher.
- Market timing: During sharp moves, domestic prices may lag overseas, creating a gap.
- Liquidity/fees: Different liquidity conditions and fee structures across exchanges also contribute..
